About Porto
Porto opened in 2004 as a dream-come-true for owners Emily Barrett and Michael Perry. The partners had worked for other home furnishings stores for years while dreaming of the day they could create their own where they could hand-pick the inventory based on their discriminating taste, vision, design sensibilities and business principles. They were determined not to compromise on quality, craftsmanship, originality, style and customer service. Porto would be a unique shopping destination and experience.
With Raleigh artist Clark Hipolito’s hand-painted murals and signature faux finishes, Porto also became a unique showroom for the partners’ collections of fine home furnishings, accessories and original art.
Porto is more than a home furnishings store, however. True to Emily’s and Michael’s vision, it is also a part of the global community, founded on the premise that our responsibilities extend beyond the showroom doors. Therefore, Porto’s collections are designed and manufactured by companies who practice environmental and social responsibility. The excellent artists we feature are usually undiscovered or unsung and simply in need of the kind of exposure Porto gives them.
As a business, Porto also makes it a practice to give back to the community. The partners do that by sponsoring and participating in many charitable endeavors, including an annual fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity. What could be more perfect and more civilized than a home furnishings store helping those without homes to have them?
Come experience the passage to civilized living for yourself.
Porto is more than a store.
It’s a destination.
