South Cone
South Cone’s founder and CEO, Gerry Cooklin, was born in Peru where he developed a keen appreciation for the beauty of traditional handcrafts made by local artisans. When he launched his furniture company in 1987, he named it South Cone for the cone-like shape of the South American continent.
Cooklin is also a devoted environmentalist who believes that the wood used in the furniture he makes, sells and buys must be harvested in forests that are managed under the strictest standards of sustainability. Therefore, South Cone is committed to making furniture only with wood from sustainably managed rainforests, and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
South Cone creates handcrafted living room, dining room, bedroom and home office furniture that captures the aesthetic beauty and sturdy functionality very similar to mahogany and ironwood. The aesthetic beauty comes from the grain, color streaking, gloss and texture. Functionality comes from the wood’s stability, workability, response to kiln drying, ability to support weight, and resistance to rot, insects, water, rupture and scratching.
